How long have you been in the transportation industry?

It all started in 1982 right after I graduated from Memphis State University. I started with a company called Delta Foremost Chemical here in Memphis as a shipping clerk handling orders for our customers. It is where I met my wife and we were not able to work together there due to their company policy; so I moved on to a company called Thurston Motor Lines for 3 years, then on to Consolidated Freightways for 13 years.  I have been with Easley Transportation since April of 2009 and I bring almost 30 years of Transportation/ Logistics experience.

What is your primary job function at Easley Transportation?

I was originally hired as a salesman/ operations back in 2009 and I have worked my way up to the General Manager position. I am responsible for Carrier/Vendor development, Customer Service, the Easley Logistics division and all Driver TSA compliance. Whatever is needed to keep Easley Transportation running smoothly as possible; I am there to make sure it happens.

What do you like best about this industry?

No two days are ever the same in this job; there is always something new that customers will request and it is our job to accomplish this for them. My motto is to “meet and exceed our customers’ expectations” every day and we strive to do that. I work with a great group of people who focus on our customer’s needs daily and I have been in both the corporate world; to ownership of my own company and I truly believe we have the best company in the city of Memphis; our people truly care about what they do for our customers.

What do you like to do when you are not moving freight?

I spend my off time with my wife and kids. I was not always around when my children were growing up; but I want to be sure to be there for them now when needed. My daughter Andrea is working also for Easley Transportation since graduating from Mississippi State in May of 2010. Not everyone gets to work closely with their daughter and I enjoy working each day we are together. My son Christopher is a certified mechanic for Lexus of Memphis and following the footsteps of his Grandfather; because I can’t even change the oil in my truck. I do play golf once a week with friends and customers and we have been doing that now for over 20 years and I still can't get the hang of it.

If you could meet anyone from history or today; who would it be?

There are a lot of great men and women in history both living and deceased that I would like to meet; but I would give that all up if I could spend some time with my father. My father was a hard worker, he taught me to be the man I am today and he was not always in good health; but the Lord gave us 24 years together. He was not alive to see his grandchildren born; but I know he watches over us now.
