The supply chain is running fast and furious as we move into the new year and there’s one position that every logistics company is looking to fill: Truck Drivers. Now more than ever, if you hold a CDL and you’re looking for work, your skills are in high demand. If you live in the Southeast United States or you’re looking to move to warmer weather, then there are a lot of places to choose to kick off your shoes after a long haul. Cities like Nashville, Charlotte, and Savannah are bustling with freight moving from all around the globe, but we are here to give you three reasons why Atlanta is a great city for truck drivers.

World’s Busiest Airport: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

Atlanta Airport

One of the things you want to look for in a city that has good driver jobs is the proximity to an airport. Airports are one of the major movers of freight in the supply chain. Airfreight has always been a key component for shipping, just look at FedEx and UPS and you’ll see two of the biggest logistics companies in the world. Even more so, the supply chain is still dealing with some major hurdles from the ocean shipping front due to the pandemic, and because of those issues, airfreight demand has been skyrocketing.

Located in Atlanta is Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, literally the World’s Busiest Airport. Hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo move in and out of this airport per year, with thousands of pieces of freight being exchanged at this terminal on a daily basis. All of that freight must be moved offsite as quickly as possible so that the airport can keep receiving and that’s one of the main reasons why driver demand in Atlanta is at an all-time high!

Business Headquarters and Your Choice of Work

Downtown Atlanta Skyline

Just as busy as it’s airport, Metro Atlanta is home to some of the biggest brands in the world. These businesses specialize in consumer goods, so they have freight that needs to be moved constantly.

Companies like Coca-Cola, The Home Depot, and Genuine Parts are headquartered in Atlanta and also manufacture and maintain operations in the area. Because of all of this booming business, drivers are needed in a variety of ways. Whether drivers are moving freight from the airport to distribution centers, moving freight between operational centers for production, or delivering goods to the final destination, there is a lot of driving to do. The reason that we can go to the grocery store and get a bottle of Coke and then head to Home Depot to get our DIY supplies is because of drivers working hard in the city of Atlanta.

Growing Economy

In our opinion, the biggest reason why Atlanta is a great city for drivers is because of its booming economic growth in the last decade. Until the economic effects of the global pandemic, Atlanta outperformed the national average for employment growth for six years in a row. More jobs in the Atlanta Metro area means more business, and more business means more freight needs to be moved.

Despite the upset of the pandemic, the Metro Atlanta business environment has been ranked #1 in the nation for the eighth consecutive year.
